Our homemade playdough typically consists of flour, salt, water, cream of tartar (for elasticity), glycerin and food color.
If the little one accidentally eats a small quantity of dough then it’s completely safe and it won’t harm the child in any way as all ingredients used are kitchen ingredients. But it is not recommended to be eaten or marked as edible because the high proportion of salt.
To make playdough softer, you can add a bit more water or vegetable oil.
To make it firmer, add more flour.
Playdough is very high in salt proportion, so usually kid will throw it out even after putting in mouth. But by chance if kid has eaten the dough, ensure to give lots of water to flush it out.
Homemade playdough should be stored in airtight containers or plastic bags to prevent it from drying out. Keeping it in the refrigerator can also extend its lifespan.
Playdough can sometimes leave temporary stains on surfaces, especially if it's brightly colored. It's a good idea to play with it on surfaces that are easy to clean or to use a protective mat.
For clothing, scrape off as much playdough as possible, then use a pre-treatment stain remover before laundering. For carpets, allow the playdough to dry completely, then vacuum it up.
Playdough can eventually dry out or become moldy if not properly stored or if it's exposed to moisture for an extended period. It's best to discard playdough if it develops an off smell or if you see any signs of mold.
